Bai Tu Long National Park

Bai Tu Long National Park located in Quang Ninh province was established on the 1st June 2001 succeeding from former Ba Mun Conservation Park. This is one in seven national   on the basis of class expanded and moved from Park Nature Ba Mun. This is one of seven national parks in Vietnam has an area of ​​land has an area of ​​sea.

Bai Tu Long National Park is located in Bai Tu Long Bay, next to the World Natural Heritage Halong Bay. From legend to history or reality, Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long are proven to be a unified whole with many striking historical, cultural and natural values.






Simultaneously, the advantages of geographical location, topography and geomorphology have contributed to create for the National Park racy values, where retains typical characteristics of sea-island ecosystem of the Northeast and wild environment, natural landscapes attractive to visitors. These are the potential and advantages for the development of ecotourism to support conservation activities and improve livelihoods of people living in the core and buffer zones of the Park.

If Ha Long Bay is regarded as a gorgeous girl, Bai Tu Long Bay is as a lovely, charming and secretly wanted girl. Located in the Northeast, 200 km from Hanoi, Bai Tu Long Bay together with Ha Long Bay became one of the natural wonders of the world. This place also imprinted Ha Long culture of thousands of years ago and also preserved quite intact the pure of a pristine island.

Legend has it that: When the ancient Vietnamese people established their country, the country was promptly invaded. The Jade Emperor sent Mother Dragon bringing her Child Dragons to land down to help fight the enemy. Invaders’ boats were rushing to the sea shore, just at the moment the dragons landed down on earth. Dragons immediately injected numerous pearls and swiftly turned into thousands of rock islands on sea, forming a solid wall suddenly block the advance of enemy’s boats. The suddenly blocked boats crashed into the rock islands or to each others and shattered.

After the victory, Mother Dragon and Child Dragons did not return to heaven but stay in the earth, where the battle took place. The location Mother Dragon landed is called Ha Long and Child Dragons descended is now Bai Tu Long. Dragon tail lashed water white is Long Vi (presently Tra Co peninsula) with long fine sand beach stretching over ten kilometers.

Bai Tu Long Bay has hundreds of mountains, islands bobbing on the water with hundreds of kilometers of coastal line with fine white sand beaches in Minh Chau, Quan Lan, Ngoc Vung, running dozens of kilometers.

By traveling to Bai Tu Long, you have chance to access to a stress of  marine ecological population just 60 km or 1.5hour of high-speed cruise from Bai Chay beach. Here, you shall be amazed at the 2 km long white sand, blue water and a clean space. Landscape of the island still retains its pristine appearance and character of pristine nature. Staying in wildly and convenient stilt-house adjacent to the water’s edge, you can still play as much as you want beside the mobile bars in artificial pools of a small sand dike distant from the beach.

You shall also have opportunity to visit temples, pagodas constructed under Ly dynasty, visit Bai Tu Long National Park with fantastic beauty and an extremely diversifying biological environment. You should not miss the change to visit Minh Chau island or visit Cai Lang – the most ancient village with blue Nang Tien (Fairy) well. If having more time, you should also come to admire Thong Thien cave, Phat Co island or boat to explore the aegiceras jungles or up to Ban Sen island to enjoy flavor of centuries-old tea and immerse yourself in crystal clear water at Uyen Uong beach… You can also go ashore to visit Cua Ong temple, Van Hoa port or track throughout the forest to visit the rustic and hospitable villages of Tay, Red Dao or San Diu ethnic minorities.

Coming here, you shall be treated with taste of specialties such as garrupa, black king fish still swimming inside cages in the water. With only garrupa, villagers may create up to 12 different dishes such as fried, steamed, grilled, fried fish bowel and skin and best eaten raw fish with mustard. Soil dragon, elephant clam and sea crab called Cu Ky are also memorable dishes adding to attraction for your exciting journey of a tourism destination awaiting to be weakened.
2 days Bai Tu Long Bay

If we have limited time and wish to have a less conventional experience than Ha Long Bay, yet still want to see its natural wonders, this trip is ideal.

It showcases some of the most impressive sights in Bai Tu Long Bay, from extraordinary rocks to excellent food, wonderful local families and much much more.

Day 1 Hanoi / Bai Tu Long Bay
Being next to Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay is equally magnificent, yet is less frequently visited. Legend has it that the Child Dragon landed here, creating its spectacular landscape. Departing from Hanoi, we drive to Cam Pha town.






Here, we embark on a traditional junk ride which takes us through the most stunning compressed and twisted islets, formed by mountain creation movement that occurred nearly ten million years ago.

This is followed by a kayak ride around picturesque limestone outcrops. Arriving on Van Don island, an island which features white sand beaches, tiny villages and verdant hills, we settle in with a retired fisherman's family for the night. (Lunch and dinner are included).

Day 2 Bai Tu Long Bay / Hanoi
Thousands of years in the making, Van Don island, which is located in Bai Tu Long Bay, is a testament to the period when the sea receded leaving the island surrounded by ivory white sand dunes and stunning crescent beaches.

The island also boasts important historical significance, having once been a trading post and an ancient battleground during the Mongol invasion of Vietnam in the 13th century.

After having breakfast we enjoy bicycle across the island and explore its northern part, the best way to see all the sights, lush surroundings and breaktaking sea view, stay close to the fertile land and its friendly inhabitants. After that we enjoy a junk trip to discover the extent of the bay.

The return journey follows a different route, allowing us a few hours to appreciate the tranquil beauty only found in Bai Tu Long Bay. We return to Hanoi at about 6pm. (Breakfast and lunch are included).

What to take:

Pack essentials for a few days away from Hanoi including light comfortable clothes suitable for outdoor activities.

Bai Tu Long National Park


Situated within the area of Bai Tu Long Bay, Van Don District, Quang Ninh province, Bai Tu Long National Park comprises 15,783ha with 6,125 ha of island land and 9,658 ha of tidal land. Several major islands include Ba Mun, Big Tra Ngo, Small Tra Ngo, Sau Nam, Sau Dong, Dong Ma islands and more than 20 other small islands.

Bai Tu Long National Park is home to about 2,000 ha of lowland evergreen forest, most of which is on Ba Mun Island. In the forest, there are various species of plants, the most common among which are Caesalpiniaceae, Theaceae, Dipterocarpaceae, Myrtaceae and Sapotaceae families.


 The park supports 672 species of terrestrial plants and 178 aquatic floral species, of which 11 species have been listed in Viet Nam Red Book of endangered species. Bai Tu Long National Park also boasts 37 species of animal, 96 species of bird, 15 species of amphibian, 22 species of reptiles, 119 species of fish, 132 species of invertebrate animal and 106 species of coral. Dugong (also known as sea cow) is one among the most endangered animals in the park.

The park is not only famous for its biological diversity, but also for its fascinating natural landscape with intact beaches and islands. Moreover, there are the archaeological sites of ancient Viet Nam and vestiges of the former busy trading port of Van Don. Visiting Bai Tu Long National Park, tourists will have opportunity to understand about the biological diversity as well as to enjoy the stunning beauty of local landscape.
